Hi Guys,

Funny thing...well kind of, happened this morning. My son...now 17 (how time has flown by since I joined gf.com), was his usual self. Hard to get out of bed and down for a cooked breakfast before he headed off to college! Then he complained that there wasn't enough hot water for his 25 minute power shower. THEN jawdrop he shouted at me from the third floor of our old house to tell me that his bedroom was full of smoke and he thought something might be on fire in his room tapedshut

So I kicked off my floopy slippers and raced up stairs..true enough, acrid smoke filled his room and clearly something was terribly amiss. He couldn't see what.....I on the other hand noticed a pair of his boxer pants hanging over the wall light fitting, smoldering with flames starting to dance around it...the set of seven spot lights being on at full blast in perfect day light you understand!!!!

So the pants flew out the third floor window onto the old slate roof, and then I tried to remove other remnants of red hot smoking pants from the light. Yes my son has hot pants today...that could have brought the house down! How did they get there, he took them off when in bed last night, and threw them towards his laundry basket; and as with much else in his room didn't look or really concern hmself where they landed headbashing

He is off to college, the room stinks....the light fitting still works amazingly but will need to be checked....oh and he asked as he left if I would be getting a plumber in to sort out the hot water situation...with no thought at all that HE IS IN HOT WATER with me!!!!!!!

Hey-ho, just another day, kids will be forever kids...lol.

Cheerio for now....Vincent...xx

Vince,

thanks for that story, it gave me a chuckle!

Speaking of the kids growing up, my oldest has just turned 16 and this weekend I'm throwing a "Sweet 16" party for her.

Mind you she's invited nearly the entire high school class, something like 160 kids. I'm hoping against hope that less than 100 actually show up!

25 min power shower X 3 girls means if I don't get up early I have no hot water! Be thankful it's only one child! cloudnine

Cheers!

Jim

So next time you guys stay with us, Vince, do you think he'd take it like a good sport if I point to one of the lamps or wall sconces and tell your son that he can hang his boxers there? Then I'll make sure to show him where the fire extinguisher is.

Confused The strange thing is, I feel we have really let him off with this big style!!! We kept him going about for a day or so and then let it go when infact there is real mileage in this one...must get our friends dropping the odd smart comment to him now too.

I suppose we came so close to a disaster in reality where by we would have probably lost the entire roof of the house if not the house, and that would have had horrible consequnces all round....we are feeling like we really dodged a bullet so to speak. We do now of course have fire extinguisers on all three levels, additional fire alarms to the wired ones we got put in during the renovations, and are thinking about an emergency escape ladder for the top floor.

An over reaction thinking.... help

Cheerio for now....Vincent..xx

Over reaction? hmmmm... Maybe, but I have two teen boys and one not far behind them... you've got me looking for good spots to post escape maps in the upstairs now... You know like those ones with red dotted lines toward the fire exits?
