On the Door Step! |
I will work to make this easy to read and short. I came out in 1993 after 18 yrs of marriage. We had 2 boys of our own, Matt and Josh. Matt was 16, Josh 14 at the time divorce. I paid $1040.00 child support until Matt turned 18. At 16, mom allowed each son to finance a car. Mom would pay the car, they pay insurance. Matt worked full time and went to school keeping a B average. I asked why he worked so hard, he said he "wanted" the money. Josh at 16 was 6'9", 320 lbs, size 19 shoe. Everyone saw a Pro-Football career for him, Mom especially. Matt turned 18, support dropped to 650.00. Josh graduates in June and support stops. Mom remarried 3 months after the divorce so she has 2 incomes to plunder from.
We negotiated our own divorce aggreement and I was overflowing with guilt at the time. I agreed if Josh lived at home and was in college, I would pay $550.00 a month so she could keep her new truck and afford the house. I am retired military. If I have my medical records reviewed and get at least a 0% disability (I'd likely get 20-30%), my kids can go to any California State University for free. I failed to get the eval done when Matt went to community college, he worked full time and paid for it himself. He starts next Monday at Johnson and Wales in Miami to be a chef at $30,000 a year. He again is paying all the costs, wants no support. Here is the issue. Last year, Mom co-signed for a 2006 car for Josh. Mom has assumed the payments and insurance for Josh, come to find out Matthew had to pay for everything for his car she allowed him to finance, that is why he worked so hard. Mom has convinced Josh to stay at home (she gets her $550.00 now), go to community college then transfer to San Diego State University. Josh is working full time but pays nothing. Mom is now on me to get my military eval done so State College is free for Josh. Matt has not one bit of resentment about the eval situation. Matt wants me to get the eval done so Josh has that benefit, I could have 10 Matt's. My take: No Eval, Josh pay your way like your Brother, Wicked Witch of the West, fork over some of that $550.00 if Josh needs money for school. Your thoughts please? What goes around, comes around..... |
