I am not sure how many of you are following the Canadian election, we go to the polls tomorrow, Jan 23. Polls are predicting a Conservative win. One of the campaign promises is to reopen the marriage debate and remove the rights for gays and lesbians to marry. They do promise to provide some kind of other arrangement, but not call it marriage.

The Supreme Court of Canada has already ruled that withholding marriage to our community is contrary to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. However Parliament can use the notwithstanding clause in the charter to impose the ban anyway.

Dads in Canada, make sure you get out and vote on Monday. For me this is my ballot question in this election.

Hugs to everyone! Have a great weekend.

Sean

I for one have followed this election and do hope that the majority of people can see through the muck and vote the correct way. Isn't is amazing that people can look at one issue like same-sex marriage and see it as an all or nothing issue, like if you disagree with it for example, then you must vote in favor of that party that supports a ban to the detriment of all other IMPORTANT issues. Those conservatives have played the book well, learning from their southern neighbors, the Republicans who push only hot button issues like abortion and same-sex marriage and they actually have a good thing with that because there are so many simpletons out there voting!

I read a good editorial in the New York Times today about truth and lies in politics. Think about this one, 22% of Americans STILL think that Saddam Hussein was behind the 9/11 attacks. Why? Well Bush said so, so it must be so!

The marriage fight goes on, and in Maryland on Friday, the state lost a court battle, basically the court saying the State Law saying marriage was only between a man and a woman actually violated the State's Constitution. Imagine that. Now I believe it goes to the State Supreme Court and who knows what will happen but perhaps another Massachusetts like outcome? I think what we need our politicians to do is just come out and say, ya know, we really need to amend the constitutions, State or Federal, saying we really don't support equal rights for everyone, only under certain conditions.

Best of luck to you Sean and all Canadians!

Jim
