Founding Father Host with the Most! ![]() |
Okay, so tomorrow is the day that the Americans feast (as if we don't any other day) like Pilgrims... well, actually, I think their fare was perhaps simpler, though more various. They had a wild and skinnier, tougher turkey back then, but they also had quail and pheasant no doubt, and thanks to the American Natives, probably some good venison.
Still, this holiday has probably strayed less far than many others that we take a day off work for. I for one will be helping to feed close to four thousand people, and will have to wait for Saturday to eat my sweet potatoes. We all have heard the long laborious, more-syrupy-than-maple toasts around the table, and likely we may have to hear more tomorrow. So, I want to try something different here. Reply to this Post with one picture that makes up for something like a thousand words to show what you are thankful for. Here, to start you off, is mine. This is a photo from about four years back when we went out during hunting season, stalked, killed and cut down our prey. We will likely be repeating this long family tradition of violence next week. Is it too late to get this thread going and post pics of what you're thankful for?
I hope not. I am sorry I haven't been as active lately. Work had many stresses for me at the end of the year and now since January first I am manager in training at the other restaurant in our company. Whole different ball game/clientèle/style/menu. Lots to learn and keep me busy so forgive me for not writing much lately. I started out that first week sick as a dog with some stomach virus and I'm still catching up. I did do some updating, but I'll tell you about that in What's New later. Let me continue the thanksgiving photo share with this pic of my favorite Christmas present this year. My youngest son, Micah made this at school and then spent all day at his grandmother's house carefully painting it. He and his grandmother (his mom's mom) decided that it should be given to me at Christmas because I, the lover of hawks and eagles could really appreciate it. I know she and I never see each other anymore but I really do adore his grandmother. She knows I don't often get these school projects in my home to display since the boys don't live with me for more than a couple of weekends a month at most. She's a good lady and she and I have some talented descendants. When I went to pick them up on Christmas afternoon, Micah insisted that he did not want to put his present in my trunk. It was apparently to be guarded carefully, and so he held it instead of his new portable DVD player in his lap for the one hour drive from home at his mothers to home at my place. How cool is that? The boys got Brian and I some other great gifts too, including hand picked rooster painted plates for the kitchen and some cool ornaments, including a painted cardinal on a star. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of that yet, because Brian kindly packed all the Christmas stuff away while I was back to work on New Year's day. But of course the best thing this dad had for Christmas was two full nights and nearly three days with the most awesome boys on earth. Hope your holidays brought cheer and joy as mine did. So share a photo of what you're thankful for. pleaaaasseee? Blessings and hugs to you, David I am not young enough to know everything. - Oscar Wilde |
