Pittsburgh, PA. I've lived elsewhere, but have always returned to this place. I'm surprised at the two mentions of Altoona, PA. I lived there for 10 months for a job once. I couldn't WAIT to get out of there. Small town, very red-neck, nearly completely white-bread. While I wouldn't go so far as to call Pittsburgh a cosmopolitan city, I love the ethnic diversities that exist here. The gay scene is small here. While I've never explored the gay scene in other places that I've lived, I've heard over and over again from guys that have lived elsewhere and have moved here, that the scene here in Pittsburgh is VERY different from other places. -- Paul

Yes, Altoona is a couple of hours from here, mostly hills, woods and small towns between us. It's red neck world here too, but you'd be surprised at how much progress has been made. Long ago, I just decided to be out and not worry about it. Most people respond well. Whithout even asking for it I'm even given a spousal discount at small chain of hardware stores that Brian works for.

I'm a manager for a restaurant where all the waitresses wear bonnets and ruffled aprons. Imagine how they are dealing with a relaxed and open gay man in a place with 30 years of conservative history!

The professor's place on the sea at CT sounds great too, but bottom line, my kids are here, so I won't leave. love

Okay, It's been a while. We've had busy holidays, but I want to hear more about where everyone is from. Keep this thread going! whip

I am originally from southwestern indiana, just east of Evansville in warrick county. during my childhood I also lived in Orlando, FL and in a small town about an hour west of Atlanta called Rockmart. While in the Marines I spent time near Philly, Pittsburgh and alot of time in Jacksonville, NC. Since I retired from the Marines, I have lived about 30 miles west of Cleveland, OH.

Hi,

I live in Greensboro, NC. It's a city of about 240,000 residents. A very nice mid size city. For the size of the city, it has a fairly large gay population. The city itself is beautiful. It's easy to get to the ocean, about 3 hours away and the mountains, 2 hours away. The city has undergone a extensive downtown revitalization and the downtown area has become the trendy area to live and play.

Hi all,
I'm from Somerset Co. Pennsylvania. Small town called Salisbury, right on the Pa., Md. border. Slow, rural kind of life. Great for raising kids but a lot of conservative people around here. Would love to move to a warmer more receptive area someday.

Ok I'll add here......

I live in a new city called John's Creek which was just incorporated in North Fulton County, Metro Atlanta, Georgia just last December. Although I've only lived in this house since last April, I've been in nearby Roswell since 1993. A very very very Red State and Red area although the city of Atlanta is more blue than red.

I grew up an Army brat, traveling all over the place with a father who was a career Army guy and my mother who was a classic enabler of whatever it was he wanted. With that, I can't say there's any place I could call 'home'.

Hey All,

I am in beautiful Phoenix, AZ. Yesterday, the high was 74, today the high was 59. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Hate me for my weather! Razzer LOL

Sure it gets hot in the summer, but I don't have to scrape the heat off of my windshield. LOL

I love it here... mountains, city - a little of it all.

Officially Moved in

I thought I'd give a shot at this one...

I was born in Northridge, California (the epicenter of the huge earthquake in Los Angeles back in January, 1994.) My parents divorced and then my mother and new stepfather took us up north to Northern California... then I moved BACK down to L.A. when I was 13 and have lived here practicially ever since, except for 2 years of schooling up in Santa Cruz, just south of San Francisco, before I transferred to UCLA. My dad's side of the family come straight from Denmark via the U.S. Virgin Islands back in the late 1800s... they came to L.A. so I can actually say that I am a native (a rarity here in this city of angels.) My mom's side, originally came from Europe and pilgrimed west on the "frontier" of the U.S. (not sure exactly where in Europe, but my mom seems to think it's England, although I traced her maiden name wwaaaaaay back to Chzechoslavakia.) Anyway, that's the background scoop on me. Smiler

Hello, my name is Allen the Sunnyside Rays of Life, the Ruler of Peace, Love & Loyalty. I am here just to chat with friends and family, plus meet new friends along the way. I have four kids which I enjoy keeping busy with their activties. My Partner is Rick, who is a gay father of two. We live in Indiana. We love to travel, go to pride events, when we can, camping, biking, walking, and laughing my ass off to where I almost wet myself... I love Drum corp, marching bands contests. We are an American Idol fans every year and most of the time we are right on the money of the top four. I like going to movies. and playing on the computer making webpages. As you can tell...my daughters marching band has been my life lately. But I have to say I was in marching band and it never left my blood. I am very lucky to have had two daughters in Marching Band. My oldest is not second year in college now also was in band and my next daughter is a senior this year in high school. My two sons show intrest in being in the band... both percussion. Next year my oldest son will be in 6th grade, so we will see if it continues. :-) I love my kids... they mean the world to me!

Welcome, Allen. I used to live in Marion, Indiana, not that far from Kokomo. I remember how proud I was to see my oldest following in some of my footsteps-- singing in the choir, acting with the church drama/ puppet team. Somehow the boy's got a talent for sports that I never really had, or else I just never got the chance. I'm glad I gave him the chance to try things. It's great when you see them carrying on a passion, in your case the drum corp.

Funny though, I didn't think I'd become a football lover, but since he started playing, now I have a reason to be into it. happy

Welcome to the group.

Hello Allen,

welcome to the group. I've only been to Fort Wayne once on a business trip, oh and to Indianapolis as well. I have also driven through Indiana, seems like a nice state, although very flat, full of farms, eh?

Cheers,

jim

Hey, until we get a proper members' map up and running, lets bring this Where in the World Are You post from last year back to the top of the pile!

If you missed it before, I am from Central Pennsylvania, currently living in the town of Sunbury, where the two branches of the Susquehanna River meet! It's beautiful here and I want to see where you live as well. So how about a little show and tell, guys?
