On the Door Step!
Posted
Well, this has been a very busy week. Originally I was worried about telling my boys about me (they are 23 and 19), my 3 daughters know and my ex wife know but I was worried sick about telling the boys.
Some crazy things happened and not only did I finally tell the boys and was pleasantly surprised by their reaction ("no problem dad, we think it's cool and we want you to be happy) but they volunteered to march in the Gay Pride parade in August and want the guy that I have been seeing to get together with all of us.
I just had to share this with you.

It's got to be in the top ten of things I've learned from our group here over the years, that our kids and relatives are rarely ever surprised or upset when they find out. They are pretty smart and I know they appreciate our honesty. Not only that, but it seems that they have grown up in a more tolerant world than the one we remember from our own school days, so unless there are religious issues involved it's usually much less of a big deal to them than we fear it will be. I'm so glad that this has proved true for you as well, Patrick. Have fun at the pride march. Now, keep in mind, you might want to prepare them for the amount of flesh and sexual explicitness that often accompanies those events, at least the ones in my limited experience. But that's a whole other post. It's good to know though, that your sons are proud of their father. You must have done a good job. Rainbow smiley

Great to hear it worked out better than you thought it would. I too was afraid to tell my 3 daughters but once I did they said exactly like you wrote it in your post "no problem dad, we think it's cool and we want you to be happy". I too came out after 22 years of marriage and have now been out for 9 years. Best decision I made! And second best decision was tell the family!

Good luck to you!
