Hello everyone. My name is Peter and I have a nine year old daughter. Our family is unconventional as there never has been a coupled relationship as part of my daughter's life. My daughter's mother is a lesbian friend. Each of us has a partner, but neither of them has any parental role in our daughter's life. They are good friends. My daughter is just finishing up grade three and is ready for the summer to start. Next week is horse camp so she is excited about that. I'm looking forward to time off myself with some camping and surfing I hope. If there are other dad's in the area say hello.

Hello, up there! I know we have a few Canadians here. Not sure how close any of them are to you. I'm down here in Pennsylvania myself.

It's always good to hear the unique stories that others have about their families. Welcome to the group!

Hi Peter,

I read once when in Vancouver, that 2/3 rds of all Canadians wanted to move to Beautiful BC!!! I would have to say I agree that it is one of the best places in the world to live....I loved the Island in particular, but the drive through the Rockies To Whistler and then from there to Vancouver was just remarkable. I went back a couple of times, but haven't been for a while now. sigh

We have a few guys here in GF.com from your neck of the woods...think one of our members moved over to Victoria a year or two ago? Sounds like you have a great relationship set up to help your daughter experiece how great it can be to grow up with parents and their partners, who happen to be gay. An ex member of ours, Blair in Australia, has had two lovely kids with a friend who is a lesbian, they live in a shared home but have separate lives too, and he is the principle parent.

I look forward to hearing more about how things are with you guys...and trust anyone near by gives you a shout.

Cheerio for now...Vincent...xx

Thanks for the reply. Vancouver was a great place to grow up in in the 60's and 70's. Its become a big city since then with lots of off shore money making everything expensive. Its still a beautiful place, but all the change hasn't been for the better. How old are your kids? My daughter is just about nine and excited about planning her birthday party later in the month.

Were you visiting friends when you were here? I took my daughter to Hawaii this year which was our big adventure for the year. She was a great traveling companion and the time alone was good. Hopefully next year it will be either Mexico or biking in Holland or Denmark.

What part of Ireland do you live in? Dublin. I see you just had elections there.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Ok....don't know how I missed this one...apologies for not replying at the time!!! Red Face

My son is now 17, but when we travelled in Canada he would have been around the age your daughter is now. We did visit with family of his mother's in Calgary once, but mostly just travelled around ourselves. We loved Vancouver Island, the Pacific Rim National Park is stunning.

Yes I am from Ireland, just outside Belfast in the North. That said it is only a 2 hour drive at most to Dublin, Ireland is a relatively small place....in so many ways!!! You mention elections, well they happen a lot over here north or south, coalition politics can have that effect. Things have been more stable of late I suppose, a strong economy and the 'peace process' has had an effect no doubt.

It is a great place to live....however I have always yearned to live in either Canada or the USA....and still have that latent wish/regret that I had made the move years ago. despite everything people say or choose to use to ridicule life...rights and liberties etc in the USA....I think the way of life is just great, it really can be what you want to make it. As fo Canada, well in the parts I have visited, there just doesn't seem to be any draw backs at all...I love my rose-tinted glasses wave

Cheerio for now...Vincent...xx

Hi Peter!

I'm only 40 miles from the Canadian border - about 70 miles south of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Thanks for posting!

Hello. Close to the border but not my part of it. I'm in Vancovuer B.C. You're in Thunder Bay? How did you become a single adoptive father? Are the adoption laws in ONtario as progressive as they are in B.C.? How old is your child? My daughter is 9 years old.

My daughter is 11, and I've had her since birth. I was married to a woman at the time we adopted her, and I'm on the US side of the border.
